Youtube forgot the “Comedy” part of Comedy Week!

When I saw that Youtube was doing a “comedy” week I was so excited! I looked to the heavens and yelled, “THIS HAS FAIL WRITTEN ALL OVER IT” And man youtube does not disappoint.

Youtube will never have to do a Stars “Where Are They Now” show because sadly they are still in the LA area trying to convince people they are talented. Calling this waste of a Google hangout a “comedy week” is an insult to people who love comedy.

And I’m sure these youtube stars are funny to PreTeens and kids who don’t have cable, but this “Comedy Week” seems to be youtube trying to make some extra money off their partners. Or, and this is a sadder point, maybe the people at Youtube truly think the creators of “Historical Rap Battle” and the “Smosh” idiots are true comedic geniuses. If so then there is a deeper problem here.

Youtube “Comedy” Week? Nah, should be titled Youtube: “Live Comedy Is Hard”, I say that mainly because, Pete Holmes, Kyle Kinane, and Hannibal Buress killed it. It was great seeing live stand up comedy on youtube. Maybe the people at Youtube should have  tried to showcase more stand up and sketch comedy on their “Comedy Week” instead of trying to get Jenna Marbles more video views.

When you upload a video on youtube they give you a few categories to file your video under. And what  Youtube’s “Comedy Week” has show us is that next time “Epic Meal Time” and company want to upload a video instead of putting it under “Comedy” they should scroll down and file their videos under “Entertainment” because even if its funny it doesn’t mean it’s comedy, OR that you’re a comedian. Sorry Not Sorry.

My Final Verdict: Youtube Comedy Week. A swing and a miss.

Tour Diary. Part One. “I caught myself almost giving a fuck”

26 days until my tour starts.
I’ve been sharing the fuck out of the indie go go

and yes if you think it’s annoying seeing me tweet or facebook about it Trust me it’s worse for me. I hate asking for help. It’s not my thing at all. Mainly we can thank my father for that little bit of life damage. But 26 days until I hit the road, I was sending out press releases and shit last night. Zoe wrote this amazing press release (she’s such a good writer) and then I caught myself. I looked over at my cat who has been eating something I’m not sure what she was eating but I know she was probably not allowed to eat it because I could see her grinning as she ate it (what a bitch).

But I caught myself, I ALMOST GAVE A FUCK!
Like sending these emails to the Huffblahblah and NPzzzzzBoring and Cool Comedy Site…like it would matter.
These sites don’t give a shit about me. I mean A lot of them don’t know who I am and you know what?
I’m down to keep it that way.

I like the idea of showing up to your city like a tornado you’ll have a little bit of a warning but in the end theres nothing you can do. I’m going to drank all your beers and I’m going to eat all of your bacon and fall asleep in a park somewhere.
So I guess as my first Tour Diary entry, I like to say.
Hey my name is Davon Magwood, If you don’t know me cool. I’m still coming to your town. So hide the things you love because daddys riding greyhound and once I get off that greyhound I’m getting drunk in that town i’m telling jokes; you’ll laugh or I’ll piss you off, then I’m getting back on the greyhound to sleep of the fucking hangover in just enough time to get of the shitty bus to do it all over again.

I am pumped to get on the road. We are going to Laugh, We are going to party, We are not going to give one single fuck! Because really who cares what anyone thinks?

Life’s too short to give a fuck!

See yinz on the road!

Love
Davon

An Open Letter to NBC and ABC! Stop Canceling Good Shows!

Hey NBC Executives,

I think the problem is that you want to repeat the success you had with these shows:

  • The Fresh Prince Of Belle Air
  • The Cosby Show
  • Friends
  • Seinfield
  • Golden Girls
  • Cheers
  • I Dream Of Jeannie
  • Frasier

Every season you show us ads for “NBC…COMEDY” blah blah, and every season I sit down grab a beer and invest time and brain space on a show that in a few months won’t even make it pass the Christmas break.

There’s a huge problem here and at some point when are you going to start looking at yourselves. I know no one likes to be called old or out dated but if there is something I learned from Heidi Klum (Project Runway) “One Day You’re In, And The Next Day You’re Out”.  It’s show business, but in any business the goal is to stay in style. And you can see that kinda with your casting choices. Picking either great writers from SNL or comics that have huge followings to carry your shows, BUT clearly that’s not enough. Like in the case of “Don’t Trust The B*tch In Apt 23″ The show was doing great on hulu and I know your wallets weren’t feeling it like back in the good ol’ 80s and 90s but media is a new beast, no one wants to be told when to watch something. They want to watch it on their own time.

I’m not one to purpose a problem without give a solution. I think you should start really using your online resources. PAUSE! Now I know you money hungry jerks are thinking of a way to use this to your advantage but stop while you’re ahead. CLEARLY no one who makes decisions at NBC or ABC knows how the internet works, you can ask HBO charging people to view stuff online doesn’t work. Also no one wants to watch shows your your own websites, the internet speeds are awful and the ads are stupid. For all that trouble I could just pirate it, and your trouble retaining a pay audience continues.

I think you really should stop looking at people who watch your shows on tv, and focus on Hulu and Netflix and who’s pirating which shows, as a better reflection of a shows success. And you should use that information to develop a show like you would in the 80s or 90s build a show the hard way like you did with all of your great shows from the past! Remember what happened when you canceled “Freaks And Geeks”? The NBC motto show be NEVER AGAIN!

With Love,

Davon Magwood
